Serving Whitman County since 1877
Beginning Feb. 4 at the Whitman County Library, high school students from around the county will exhibit work, culminating in a “Meet the Artists” event Feb. 7.
County art teachers met Wednesday, Jan. 16, to coordinate plans for the exhibit, which will feature art from approximately 145 students.
“For one thing, we’ve had some amazing lessons coming from the different teachers around the county,” said Cheryl Lothspeich, art teacher for Colfax High. “And the kids have gotten to choose their own assignments to feature.”
The art shown will be from first semester.
Whitman County’s high school art teachers include Patty Mills (Oakesdale), Sean Moss (Rosalia, Tekoa), Mary Chastain (LaCrosse), Mary Bertrand (St. John), Nancy Hegg (Gar-Pal) and Lothspeich.
“This event acknowledges the collaborative efforts of the teachers involved, while celebrating the artistic achievements of the high school students,” said Mills. “This art show merges student interest and enthusiasm, opening up a dialogue within the respective districts and communities in support of the arts.”
Mills said she hopes it becomes an annual event.
