Planning Commission seeks members

The Whitman County Planning Commission is seeking two new members to fill vacancies.

If the vacancies aren’t filled soon, county commissioners may have to consider reducing the size of the planning board from nine members to seven.

“If a month from now, there’s not any more board members, I would recommend making it fewer,” Whitman County Planner Alan Thomson told the county commissioners Tuesday morning.

The role of the planning commission is to hear and consider county planning issues and then advise the county commissioners.

Thomson also said that there have been attendance issues within the board, and he hasn’t broached the issue because of the lack of members.
