Thrifty Grandmothers

The Thrifty Grandmothers held their monthly meeting Jan. 14 at the library. The thrift shop is doing well and the group is appreciative of the community support. They voted to give $500 to the Whitman Hospital Foundation and $500 to the LaCrosse Market fund.

Athenaeum

Athenaeum Club met Jan. 18 in the Norma McGregor Room of the Whitman County Library with Mary Ann Mitchell as hostess. The meeting was called to order by President Mary Ann Wigen with twenty members present. President Mary Ann encouraged all members to be planning our annual Guest Day which will be on April 19. Kay Van Dyke presented an informative program on the life of astrophysicist and astronaut Dr. Sally Ride. She was the first American woman in space and the youngest American to orbit the earth.

The next meeting will be held in the Norma McGregor Room of the library on Feb. 1 with Dana Carroll as hostess and Lois Scholz presenting the program.
