Just as the grass was beginning to show through in most yards, another winter storm hit Colfax and the surrounding areas.
A Winter Storm Warning was issued Monday morning from the National Weather Service until 4 p.m. Tuesday, but it was canceled early Tuesday.
According to the NWS in Spokane, significant snow accumulations were likely and the result could have been very hazardous commutes. Accumulations of snow were forecast to continue through Tuesday, but the snow stopped. Breezy conditions on the Palouse and Camas Prairie caused some blowing and drifting snow, mainly around Colton and Uniontown, on Monday night.
David Jones, soil conservationist, said the Colfax area received two inches of snow on Monday night. The area got two inches of snow Sunday night.
Weather reports early Tuesday morning indicated about eight inches of snow fell in Viola, Idaho, and close to a foot in Deary.
Winds were forecast to kick up from the southwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph on Monday night, but the winds were not as severe as forecasted.
Today (Thursday), there’s a 50 percent chance of showers with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 40. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch are possible. Thursday night calls for a 40 percent chance of showers with a low of 28.
For Friday and Saturday, rain and snow will continue. The weekend calls for partly to mostly cloudy skies with highs around 40 degrees and lows in the upper 20s to low 30s.
