Max Mueller scores 38, 40 to lead team
Last year they went 0-19 overall and fought through several blowouts this season, beginning the year 0-12 in league.
Then, this week the Tekoa-Oakesdale Nighthawks won back to back games, led by 38 and 40 point games from senior center Max Mueller.
Against St. John-Endicott Saturday night, The Nighthawks lead 68-64 with 18 seconds left. The Eagles then hit a three-pointer but, with four seconds on the clock, the Nighthawks held the ball at the inbound line as time ran out.
Mueller led the team with 38 points while Marcus Pluff had 13 and Jesse Johnson nine.
“A big part of Max’s points is the teamwork,” said Nighthawks coach Ken Lindgren. “It’s been great the last couple nights. Jesse Johnson played really well around the basket.”
On Tuesday night against Rosalia, Mueller scored 40 points in a 76-67 win while Pluff had 15 and Tyler Hanson 14.
“Tyler played the game of his life,” said Lindgren.
Tekoa-Oakesdale (3-15, 2-12), will complete their season this weekend with senior night on Friday in Oakesdale vs. Liberty followed by a game at Touchet Saturday.
They are out of the playoff picture.
“I love this group of kids’ attitude,” said Lindgren. “Our kids have not quit. Somebody’s watching you when you walk off that floor; what are they going to think about you?”
