Garfield-Palouse Middle school students directed by Rebecca Hemphill and Ruth Vertrees recently participated in the Southeast Washington Music Educators Association’s Small Ensemble Festival. Duet singers Emmy Gregg and Michelle Thompson received the highest rating, Superior, for their performance of “Danny Boy,” with the judge noting their “beautiful voices.” The saxophone quartet, consisting of Tuli O’Neill, Daniel Arlt, Mason Bates and Dash Estes also received a Superior rating, performing J.S. Bach’s “Bouray” from Suite #1, arranged by Larry Teal.
The adjudicator, Keri McCarthy, oboe professor from WSU commented: “Excellent work, an advanced piece and each of you are really invested - I hope your ensemble stays together!”
