A silky gray line drops from an upper corner of the loss column for the Colton girls basketball team.
The cobwebs have returned.
After losing their first game this season Dec. 28 to break a 37-game win streak, the team has won 12 in a row since then to finish their season 16-0 in league.
So dust has been restored in its familiar place, and Colton will aim not to disturb it again as playoffs start this week.
In second place for the Southeast 1B girls are the Tekoa-Oakesdale Nighthawks with a 12-4 league record while St. John-Endicott finished third (also 12-4 in league).
Colton and the Nighthawks each have a bye for the first round of the District 9 tournament, which will begin with No. 3-seed St. John Endicott vs. No. 6 Gar-Pal and No. 4 Touchet vs. No. 5 Rosalia. Both games were scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 6.
On Friday night, Colton will host the winner of Rosalia and Touchet while the Nighthawks will host the winner of Gar-Pal and St. John-Endicott.
The tournament final will be held the following Friday, Feb. 15, at Colfax High School.
The loser of that game will play the winner of the loser’s bracket, to determine the No. 2 seed for the regional tournament.
