Jackie W. Duncan

Jackie Wayne Duncan passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, in Moscow, Idaho. Jack was born in Franklin, Ky., on June 28, 1940, the son of Carl E. and Beulah M. Duncan. He grew up in Bowling Green, Ky., where he went on to play quarterback for Bowling Green High in 1956 and 1957. After graduation, Jack ventured west to follow his brothers to California and work for General Telephone.

He was drafted into the Army where he served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Upon leaving the Army, he returned to California before moving to Idaho to continue work as a lineman for GTE. He arrived here in the winter of 1968 and married Barbara Page. They survived a house fire in Osborn before settling in Cataldo, Idaho, in 1970. He moved to Deary in 2002 where he resided during his final years.

Jack’s favorite hobbies included the hunting camp adventures in Elk River with the North Idaho Duck Club and pulling kokanee out of the waters of Dworshak Reservoir in the summer. He also enjoyed a good ride on his four-wheeler on the back roads or just driving around with his dogs, “Buckwheat” and “PeeWee,” and would also be known to enjoy a moment or two at Fuzzy’s Bar in Deary.

Jack is survived by two sons, Carl of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Dan of Helena, Mont. He is also survived by five sisters: Shirley Towe, Joyce Green, Barbara Smith, Janice Eatherly, and Betty Motley, all of Bowling Green. He was preceded in death by his three brothers: Charlie, Earl, and Jim, and one sister, Helen Potter.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Deary Rural Fire District in Jack’s name.
