Maynard’s Mop Shop sold, now Studio M

Elaine McClintock of Colfax recently announced she sold her hair salon business, Maynard’s Mop Shop, to her long-time co-worker, Myndi Stout. The “Maynard” in the shop’s name related to Elaine’s nickname.

Elaine “Maynard” McClintock is sitting down, able to relax a bit because she sold her salon, Maynard’s Mop Shop in Colfax, to her long-time co-worker, Myndi Stout, standing behind her. The women have worked together for nearly 27 years. The salon now is known as Studio M.

Now it’s time for Stout to take on duties such as shoveling snow and taking out the garbage, McClintock joked.

McClintock and Stout have worked together nearly 27 years.

“My intent was to eventually sell the shop and the logical person to sell it to was Myndi,” McClintock said.

She said nothing much will change for the shop’s customers. The name of the shop has been changed to Studio M.

McClintock has been a stylist since 1976. She worked at home for more than 10 years until she bought the shop in 1987.

Stout began at Barbara’s Beauty Shop, moved to the Hair Affair, then Robin’s Nest and then to the present shop site just before McClintock bought it.

“I had always hoped it would work out,” Stout said.

Stout said service will remain the same - hair cuts, coloring, perms and manicures.

“We have a certain comfortable atmosphere for our clients that we’d like to keep,” she said.

She also said there might be some cosmetic changes.

“It’s been a smooth transition,” she said. “We’re still the same people.”
