The buttercups have arrived

Even though the area was blanketed with snow on Monday, spring officially arrives in Whitman County when the Widman children find the first buttercup. From left are Reed, 5, Angelina, 8, and Sonia, 2, who brought in three jars of the prized bright yellow spring flower. They are the children of Allen and Emmy Widman of Rosalia and received $1 each as their reward.
