Jail assault on officer charged

A call for "all available officers" went out at 4:47 p.m. Monday from the Whitman County jail after an inmate allegedly assaulted an officer during meal service. Inmate Kerry E. Morrison, 26, was later arrested on a charge of custodial assault of a jailer by Deputy James Pellissier.

According to the report, Officer Brett Keller and Jail Commander Scotty Anderson were serving dinner to inmates in the jail's orange section when Morrison stood up and hit Keller in the face. Keller was in the process of pouring juice for the inmates' dinner.
