School security levy set for April 23

A $250,000 capital levy for security improvements for the Colfax School District buildings has been submitted and certified for election. The Whitman County Auditor’s election office will send out ballots two weeks before the April 23 voting day.

Michael Morgan, Superintendent for the Colfax School District, said Monday night that the project’s architect, Laurence Rose of Design West in Pullman, will appear at a community presentation regarding the levy in the coming weeks.

The levy’s proposals include an electronic door-lock system, a re-designed main entrance at Jennings Elementary, new doors at both Jennings and Colfax High School and other security features.

Supt. Morgan also said that he has ordered two sets of display boards which will be shown at different locations in Colfax leading up to the election, April 23. The boards, purchased with capital projects funds, will show architectural drawings and other information regarding the levy.
