‘Food for Fines’ nets 138 donations

Whitman County Library’s 13th annual “Food for Fines” brought in donations from 138 residents who donated $900 in non-perishable food. Donations came in throughout Whitman County. Format of the drive allows library patrons to donate food in lieu of paying overdue fines. Almost one third of the donations were not attached to the waiving of library fines.

Food for Fines is conducted each February when area pantries report more people are struggling with high heat bills and difficulty feeding their families.
