Positive focus
Okay, I for one, am sick and tired of the negative anonymous comments about the flags that decorate our Colfax Streets. I cannot believe that there has been so much criticism over flags that add much to our aging downtown. If you do not have the courage to sign your name to any comments, then you have no business tearing down our community by your negative comments.
Furthermore, we should be proud that we have a state college 20 minutes from our town. There are many Colfax residents employed at WSU, we reap the economic benefits of WSU’s traffic coming through our town and we in turn should do our part to offer positive comments and appreciate what is right in our backyard. My family, like many over the years, has enjoyed WSU games, a variety of sports camps provided by WSU athletics, entertainers brought in for big WSU weekends, not to mention Ferdinands ice cream and cheeses.
In addition, we should appreciate the added pop of color to our streets that these variety of flags offer. Whether it is our American flags, Colfax Bulldog flags, WSU flags or H’art of the Palouse banners, the wonderful flower baskets and fall decorations; they all spruce up our city streets and make them more inviting for a visitor to stop and check out what Colfax has to offer.
I also appreciate the volunteers who tirelessly (even with nonstop criticism) make this happen. Those who work to hang the flags, plant the flowers, hang the baskets, and water the plants daily, all done in addition to a full day’s work. Thank you for making Colfax a more inviting place.
Finally, I am discouraged by the Gazette allowing these anonymous negative comments to continue to be published in the paper. My challenge to the Gazette is to remove the pet peeves section and only publish negative letters that someone feels strongly enough about that they have the courage to sign their name. You may see this as freedom of speech, but I see it as part of our Country’s problem. You can change this; you can focus on the positive and be part of a solution.

Colfax
