Bulldogs book third league sweep

Colfax boys Tuesday booked their third straight league sweep by taking out Springdale in two five- inning games at McDonald Park, 13-3 and 14-0.

The twin-win day followed double wins over Northwest Christian and Davenport last week. Colfax now stands 8-2 in league play with a final league round at Liberty Saturday.

Lefty Patrick Jacobs Tuesday threw a no-hitter at the Chargers for the 14-0 shutout in the second game. He struck out 10, allowed two walks and hit one batter. Jacobs also led the Bulldog offense with a pair of doubles.

John Mellor and Garrett Burke also hit doubles and Dylan Heiser, Mark Webber, Brady Ellis and Bryce Kramlich had the other hits.

In the opener, Ellis allowed the Chargers five hits, fanned seven and walked two batters. The Bulldogs took the lead over the 10-run margin with an eight-run charge in the fourth inning.

Ellis finished with three hits, including an inside-the-park homer. He had eight RBIs in the game.

Heiser and Mellor each had two hits in the opener and Webber booked a double.

Coach Mike Parrish noted the Colfax crew played through both games without an error on the day.

Last Thursday the Bulldogs took the pair over Davenport at McDonald Park with two sophomore pitchers. The Bulldogs had to go with the younger pitchers because they had used up their starters two days earlier in the big double win over Northwest Christian.

Burke, who has booked some quality relief work over the season, and Dylan Heiser pitched the wins.

Burke threw a six hitter at the Gorillas to book a 7-2 win in the first game.

Colfax took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning when they scored three runs on the way to the 7-2 win.

Bryce Kramlich doubled for the Bulldogs in the first game.

Heiser, Jacobs and Webber each had two of the eight hits and Brent Becker added the other hit.

In the second game, Heiser held the Gorillas to five hits while the Colfax bats cranked out six hits for the win. The Bulldogs had a 10-3 lead after three innings and put it in the bag under the 10-run margin rule with five more runs in their half of the fourth inning.

Jacobs had three hits for a 5-for-6 day at the plate. Heiser had two hits in the second game, and Brock Morgan had the other hit.

Overall record for the Bulldogs is now 11-3.
