Colfax girls beat Springdale twice

Colfax girls Tuesday defeated Springdale twice with a 7-6 escape win in the first game and a 19-9 explosion in the second game at McDonald Park.

The Bulldogs are now 6-2 in league play with two more league rounds. Davenport is scheduled to play here today, Thursday.

Erica Eng allowed eight hits, struck out five Chargers and walked six for the first win.

The Bulldogs had a 7-2 lead after four innings, but the Chargers charged to within a run in the seventh. Springdale had two runners on base in their half of the seventh but the rally ended with a strikeout by power hitter Taylor Smith.

The Bulldogs also bagged a double play in the fifth inning with Amara Huber scooping up a liner at shortstop and lobbing it to Kori Goodwin who made the pivot play at second to nail both runners.

Colfax had 10 hits in the first game with Andrea Hamilton tagging three singles to highlight her return to action after a long derailment with a concussion during basketball season. Kacey Cloaninger had two hits, and Carolyn Knaack doubled.

Eng, Rachel Robinson, and Sarah Appel had the other hits in the opener.

In the 19-9 win in the second game, Colfax crunched a 9-9 tie with a 10-run charge off seven hits in the fifth. Eng allowed nine hits, fanned five and walked five for the win.

Brittany Lewis, Goodwin, Rachel Robinson and Ashante Erickson each had three of the 18 Colfax hits in the second game. Sarah Appel and Cloaninger each had two hits.
