It was the bottom of the fifth inning. In the first game of a doubleheader at home vs. Gar-Pal, Colton senior Justin Meyer walked up to the plate with the bases loaded.
He hit a ball deep to left field, clearing the fence for a grand slam to end the game, 14-3. It was the first home run of his high school career.
The shot completed a 2 for 4 game for Meyer with five RBIs.
Jake Straughan went 3 for 3 with a double and a triple to highlight other Colton hitters.
Straughan also pitched, going five innings to allow six hits and no walks with six strikeouts.
Colton won the second game 7-2 as Jordan Druffel pitched all seven innings, allowing four hits with nine strikeouts and three walks.
At the plate, Casey Jackson led Wildcat hitters going 2 for 3 with a double.
The game was tied 2-2 in the third inning when Colton put together three runs to build a lead.
Colton (8-6 overall) will play next at Pomeroy Saturday for a doubleheader.
“We’re fairly consistent in a lot of areas,” said Colton coach Pat Doumit. “That’s the one thing you want to get in the system.”
On April 9 at home, Colton lost to Asotin 17-8 in a non-league matchup.
