Gar-Pal beats T.O.R., loses to Colton

The Gar-Pal baseball team raised their record to 4-9 with a 10-inning win under the lights at Rosalia Tuesday night.

Playing against 2B Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia, the 1B Vikings trailed 10-4 in the second inning before tying the score to force extra innings. In the 10th, Jesse Lopez hit a grand slam to put Gar-Pal up 14-10.

From there, the Vikings held on to win 14-12.

“Our defense was pretty solid,” said Gar-Pal coach Jeremy Kimble. “We were able to make plays and strand runners.”

Lopez led the team, going 3 for 6 with seven RBIs while Wyatt Mitchell had three hits and Gabe Cocking had two.

Kaleb Shaub pitched all 10 innings, giving up 18 hits and four walks with six strikeouts.

Last Friday, April 12, Gar-Pal played a doubleheader at Colton and lost both, 14-3 and 7-2.

Shaub had two hits to lead the Vikings in the first, while Cocking and Hunter Woltering both had two hits in the second game. Lopez pitched the entire second frame, giving up nine hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

“Colton’s at the top of our league, I was impressed with the hits we were able to get,” said Kimble. “It’s good to see we’re starting to swing the bats a little better.”

Gar-Pal is not scheduled to play next until April 27, although Kimble hopes to play some makeup games before that.
