The Garfield-Palouse softball team improved their record to 8-7 on the season by splitting a doubleheader against Genesee Saturday.
Playing at home in Garfield, the Vikings lost 9-4 in the first game followed by an 11-10 win in the second.
Gar-Pal went to extra innings in the latter game, which ended in the eighth when Chandler Pfaff hit a double to drive in two runs. She also hit a triple in the seventh inning and led the team with four hits overall (4 for 4) with two doubles and two triples.
In addition, Brianna Brown went 2 for 3 for the Vikings while Sammi Johnson went 2 for 4.
On the mound for Gar-Pal, Becca Cochran pitched all eight innings, allowing six hits and walks with seven strikeouts.
In the 9-4 loss in the first game, Pfaff pitched all seven innings to allow four hits and nine walks with 10 strikeouts.
Pfaff also went 2 for 3 at the plate with a single and a triple to lead her team, which only had three hits in the game. McKenzie McClanahan’s double was the third one.
The Vikings will play next in a doubleheader vs. Pomeroy at Garfield on Saturday.
“We need to get on a hot streak and win these next games,” said Vikings coach Steve Witthuhn. “Which is probably what I said last week.”
