Serving Whitman County since 1877

With all that is going on in the world, it is time for a break.

That break can start this weekend. The St. John Community Fair kicks off today. Then, tomorrow the Colton/Uniontown Fair takes place.

And, if these are not enough, towns throughout the county will be holding their own festivals in the coming weeks and months. These town celebrations are a tradition on the Palouse.

The St. John Fair runs through Sunday. This is the first of the festival season. St. John opens up for everyone. The event includes a fun run, good food, games, animal judging, parade and the fair.

The Colton/Uniontown Fair is tomorrow (Friday). It is a one day affair. This includes animal judging and a variety of different fun events.

Details on these two events are on the front page of this Gazette. A full schedule of the St. John activities is on Page 3B.

After these, other town festivals follow. The idea is to have fun with old and new friends and introduce the towns to visitors. These events are important, too, for community fund raising.

Each town has something different of which to be proud, and each has a different flavor. Yet, these events are all similar in that the fun is simple and family friendly.

Even Colfax is reviving its summer festival this year. It is slated for July.

These town festivals can transport one from the everyday world to a simpler and more comfortable time.

They are breaks worth taking. Join the fun.
