Happy Hooves 4H
will host horse show
Whitman County Happy Hooves 4-H Club will sponsor an open horse show Saturday, May 18, at the Palouse Empire Fairgrounds. This is a state qualifying event for Whitman County 4H members and is open to non-4H competitors.
Happy Hooves Club will use the proceeds to fund a community service project.
Forty-four classes are offered, and buckles for overall high point will be awarded in each age division. Registration will begin at 7 a.m., and show classes begin at 8 a.m. Participants may pre-register for $5 per class until May 13. Post entry fees are $8 per class. PEO
Chapter AF met at the Courtyard April 22 at 7 p.m. Diane Solbrack was hostess and Jill Nelson co-hostess. Seventeen members responded to roll call by giving the farthest location traveled from home. A report was given from those who attended the S.E. Reciprocity meeting in Pomeroy on April 13.
Pomeroy Chapter is planning their Spring Tea May 17 at noon. Cost is $16. Hats are encouraged. RSVP to Robyn Johnson by April 30.
A fifth Monday outing is planned April 29 at the South Fork restaurant in Pullman at 6:30 p.m.
News of the death of member, Lacey Ebbert, was brought to the attention of the chapter. She had retired from teaching in Germany and returned to live in Porterville, Calif.
Ann Marra presented a program on the scholarship payouts by the various PEO projects. Many dollars helped many needy women.
Next scheduled meeting will be May 13 with Liane Smith hosting.
Rosalia Garden club
Charley Hein whose topic is “Organic Gardening, specializing in Garlic” will be guest speaker at the May 1, 2013, 1 p.m. dessert meeting at the home of Alice Hofmann.
Hein grows more than 30 different varieties of garlic.
Guests are welcome but asked to inform the hostess by Tuesday, April 30.
Club members have resumed their work in the Rosalia mini-park Monday afternoons. Anyone interested may join them from 1 to 3 p.m.

Sharp, Gina Schaefer and Karl Cre of Lewiston, Idaho. Maternal grandparents are Gail and John Cook of Kendrick, Idaho, and Marge Dryden of Lewiston, Idaho. The baby joins sister Destinee, 2.
STARTIN DAUGHTER BORN
Startin, Hudson Jade, was born March 7, 2013, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, first child to Buggy and Chelsey of Colfax. She was three pounds 14 ounces and 17 1/4 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Myndi Stout of Colfax and Joe and Jill Leinweber of Colfax. Paternal grandparents are Eric and Lois Startin of LaCrosse. Maternal great-grandparents are Dick and Pauline Gebhardt of Colfax and Howard and Sue Leinweber of Colfax. Paternal great-grandparents are Gayle and Nancy Startin of LaCrosse.
