Playing at Tekoa Tuesday night, the Colton girls softball team beat Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia 11-3 in a game which the youngest Moser made an impression.
Freshman Zoe Moser, following three softball-playing sisters for Colton, pitched three innings in the win and went 2 for 4 at the plate. Zoe’s older sister, Jenna, a junior, also went 2 for 4 in the game.
Other 2 for 4 hitters included Hannah Kramer and Carrie Hennigar.
Colton trailed 4-3 in the sixth inning before Kaitlyn Druffel dropped a single off of a bunt to start a series of hits and runs.
Zoe Moser started the game on the mound for Colton, throwing three innings to give up six hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Winnie Schultheis threw the next four innings, allowing no hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.
Colton, the four-time defending state champions, are now 12-5 on the season.
“It was a good game,” said Colton coach Brad Nilson. “But we made a few errors when the sun got in our eyes. You look out and their players are all wearing sunglasses and we weren’t smart enough to bring them.”
Last week, Colton played a doubleheader at DeSales and lost 4-2 before winning 10-9. A day earlier they lost to Orofino 11-7.
“We’re still growing, we’re young,” said Nilson, who has a roster with only two seniors and two juniors.
Colton will play next at home against Liberty Christian in a doubleheader Saturday for their last league games.
