The Colton girls softball team picked up a 4-1 win over Genesee on Monday before beginning an eight-day wait for the District 9 playoffs.
Freshman Zoe Moser went 2 for 2 at the plate to lead the Wildcats while Winnie Schultheis and Kaitlin Druffel added one hit each.
On the mound for Colton, Schultheis pitched four innings to allow three hits with one walk and one strikeout. Moser threw for three innings, giving up two hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
“We played good defense, so I was happy,” said Colton coach Brad Nilson.
Colton will now wait until Tuesday, May 14, to host Gar-Pal in the No.2 vs. 3 seed loser-out District 9 playoff game.
“It boils down to one game,” Nilson said.
The winner of the Colon vs. Gar-Pal game will advance to play the winner of No. 1 seed Touchet and No. 4 seed Liberty Christian. The higher seed will host the May 16 game.
With the extra time before playoffs begin, Nilson said what the team will work on at practice.
“Going back to the fundamentals,” he said.
The Wildcats are the four-time defending state 1B champions.
