The Colton Wildcats baseball team began their 2013 playoff push with 16-1 win.
Playing at home vs. Pomeroy in the No. 1 vs. No. 4 seed game, the Wildcats showed why they had the upper slot.
A season-high seven extra-base hits filled the stat sheet, highlighted by Austin Meyer’s three hits with a triple, Jake Straughan’s three with a double and grand slam, Carter Dahmen’s three with a double and Justin Meyer’s home run.
Straughan pitched all seven innings to throw a one-hitter, striking out eight batters with just one walk.
“This was one of our first home playoff games in at least six years,” said Colton coach Pat Doumit. “A great crowd, generations of Colton fans showing up, it was awesome.”
Colton now advances to play the winner of No. 2 seed Liberty Christian or No. 3 seed Touchet at home Saturday at 11 a.m.
Coach Doumit said he will decide Friday who will pitch.
“While (Straughan) is our ace, Jordan (Druffel) has got to get innings too,” Doumit said.
In the meantime, at practice, the Colton players will conclude their Blue vs. White intersquad World Series. With just 13 players on the roster, the Colton coaches play too.
