Schuster posts first day lead

St. John senior Michal Schuster carded an 86 for a five-stroke lead in the girls’ side of the state B golf finals Tuesday at Oakbrook, and Colfax golfers Hunter Weitze and Kasey Johnson made the first day cut.

Paige Mackleit of Colfax finished in sixth in the first round with a 96, and SJE’s Sierra McCanna also made the cut with a 104. Tekoa Oakesdale’s Nicole Zimmerman posted a 123 and Kim Groom a 131, both over the cut.

Weitze finished with a 84 for a three-way tie for sixth behind the 72 par medalist score of Ryan Baumgart of DeSales.
