Mr. LaCrosse joins Farm Fest

Lacrosse

A new event for Farmers Festival will be the Mr. Lacrosse competition in the high school pit area June 14. High School candidates will compete in fitness, talent, question and answer and formal wear. All proceeds will go the Richard L. Roberts scholarship which is awarded to a senior each year and based on community service. A barbecue will be in the school courtyard for those wanting to dine before the show.

The FFA plant sale continues with pots for $2.50 or vegetables for $2. Hanging pots are available.

New FFA officers are Cole Evans, president; Lindsey Miller, vice president; Ashtyn Aune, secretary; Jason Wigen, treasurer; Graham BeDell, reporter; Madison Harder, sentinel, and Jessica Guske, ASB representative.

The student of character assembly for April was in the school pit. It opened with the ASB officers asking trivia questions about the school employees. Then they presented the staff with school vests in observance of staff appreciation week. Then students who received the student of character for April’s trait of wisdom/optimism were recognized.

Later in the elementary reading room the sixth graders performed a small skit for the grade school students to explain “heart,” which is May’s trait.

Eric Ode was a guest author for the elementary students. He writes books, poems and songs. He began with a grade 1-6 assembly where he involved the students in singing and reading. Throughout the day he met with each classroom and engaged students in a writing process and answered questions about writing.

Grades 3-6 visited the Jones School house at the Palouse Empire Fair grounds in a simulation of a 19th century school day. They began with the original version of the Pledge of Allegiance, participated with patriotic songs, discussed maxims and quotes, engaged in drill work and 1880 games for recess, and practiced lessons in the time period mode.
