Colfax Festival to hold river channel race

The first Colfax Color Mob 5K run/walk will be July 27 starting at Schmuck Park in Colfax. Part of the 5K fun run will be in the concrete channel of the South Palouse River as part of the revived Concrete River Festival event that weekend.

Participants will be showered with non-toxic corn-starch dye as they make their way along a course which will go south from the park to Mill Street and continue south and west to Main Street where entrants will slide into the concrete river channel down the slanted slope next to Chase Bank.

A cushioned plastic slide will be installed for people to slide into the channel, according to Lori Brown, one of the run organizers.

Runners then will race along the bottom of the S. Palouse Channel which goes north along the west side of downtown Colfax. They will go under four bridges and past the end of the concrete to a ramp road behind the Best Western Motel. The runners will then cross Highway 195 and go back to Schmuck Park for the finish. Police will control traffic so runners can cross Highway 195.

A portion of every registration for the first Colfax Color Mob 5K is being donated to Multiple Sclerosis Northwest.
