Young Bulldogs wrap softball season

The Colfax Bulldog softball team marked an end to the 2013 campaign last Thursday by extending a farewell to their lone senior, Catcher Rachel Robinson.

Coach Terry Eng noted Robinson now rates number one on the all-time Colfax batting average list at .451.

She struck out only five times in 110 at bats and didn’t book a single strikeout over the first 14 games of the season.

The Bulldogs, who finished the year with a 1-2 run at the state finals Yakima, also had just two juniors in the lineup. One of those, Scoops Hahn, pursued a role as cheerleader while recovering from an ACL injury.

Colfax finished with a 16-12 record, but 10 of those defeats were to teams that finished in the top 10 in the state.

The Bulldogs also again won the state academic award with a 3.6 grade average.

Eng noted the highlight game of the year was the win over Springdale in the last district state qualification game. The Bulldogs lost pitcher Erica Eng to an inury in that game, and Springdale charged to a 6-6 tie. Relief pitcher Kasey Cloaninger held off the Chargers, and Carolyn Knaack had the big swing double that put Colfax back in the lead and on the road to state.

Cloaninger was the other junior on the team

Sophomores who made up the core of the team included Kindra Kneale, Knaack, Amara Huber, Erica Eng, Kori Goodwin, Brittany Lewis, Alllison McDonald, and Andra Hamilton

Freshmen on the team were Sarah Appel and Roxanne Allenbach.

Captain awards were presented to Robinson and Cloaninger.

Jayvee Coach Lynnea Vantrease presented jayvee wards to Peyton Scott, Allison Dunning, Rose Marie Davis, Jolee Aeschliman, Sidney Sheer, and Kelly Ward. Aeschliman and Scheer also received certificates for making the roster for the trip to state.
