From left, Scooter Lyle, Jack Doebler and Marco Castaneda get ready to place a stained glass window in the LaCrosse Market May 23.
It took six men and a heavy-duty lift to get each window up on a scaffold.
The crew included Carlton Builders of Colfax and volunteers from McGregor’s Co., and it took about eight hours to install all the windows.
The largest window they installed was four feet high and 12 feet wide.
Mary Kiernan said that she and her husband, Jack, who own New Morning Glass in Mount Carroll, Ill., finished the reconstruction work on the only original stained-glass window and put more than 70 hours of work into it.
They trucked six stained-glass windows more than 2,000 miles from Illinois to LaCrosse.
“It looks like it’s been here a while, which makes a stained glass worker feel good about the work,” she said.
The window project was paid for by an anonymous donor.
The next project for the building is to install flooring and open the library.
A grand opening ceremony will be held during LaCrosse Farmers’ Festival on Saturday, June 15.
