Galileo set for Kamiak

Kathy Dawes, who is affiliated with the Palouse Discovery Science Center, will lead a Kamiak Butte campfire program on Galileo’s telescope Saturday, June 15, at 7 p.m. Participants will learn how lenses work and assemble a kit telescope like the one Galileo used to study the moon and to discover the major moons of Jupiter.

Assuming the sky is clear, participants can hike three eighths of a mile up to a view point at Kamiak and observe the first quarter moon just like Galileo did in 1609.

The telescope kits will be disassembled for use in future sessions.

Call Whitman County Parks Department for additional information.
