Pullman Patriots, the area’s entrant in the Spokane senior Legion League division, started a four-game series with the Spokane Blue Devils at McDonald Park Tuesday night, and the Pats booked a split in the double.
The Patriots took the opener 8-6 with Hunter Redinger allowing six hits to the Spokane club. The Blue Devils were shut out for the first six innings, but they came to life with six runs in the top of the seventh.
Matt Peterson led the 13-hit Patriots offense with two singles and a double, and Brison Abdul and Redinger each had two hits.
In the second game, the Blue Devil pegged a 5-2 lead after three innings and the way to a 13-6 final score. They totaled 12 hits for the game.
The Patriots committed four errors in the second game.
Abdul started for the Pats with Brady Ellis relieving him in the fourth inning. Peterson rapped a single and double in the second game for a five-hit night. The Patriots had four errors in the second game.
The split left the Pats’ record for the season at 2-6.
The two teams were slated to play again at McDonald Park Wednesday for another double. The unusual run of four games was played at Colfax because the Blue Devils were unable book a field in Spokane.
Sunday in Spokane the Patriots lost both sides of a non-league double with the SBC Grinders. The hosts took the first game 5-4 after scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Jeremy Druffel started for the Pats in the first game, and Patrick Jacobs relieved him in the fifth inning.
The Grinders took the second game 8-6 with four runs over the last two innings. Ellis started the game for Colfax with Nolan Johnson going to the mound in the fifth.
The Patriots started the second game with a six-run charge in the first inning. with the Grinders booking four errors.
Jeremy Druffel had two doubles in the second game.
The Patriots are also slated to be back at McDonald next Tuesday when they host the Northstars of Chewelah in a doubleheader.
