Kamiak hike Saturday will debut new trail

Whitman County Park Board and staff have announced the addition of a new trail to Kamiak Butte County Park’s trail system. West End Primitive Trail loops off of Pine Ridge Trail. Running two miles in length, it has been given the National Forest Service rating of difficult.

It will be the first “no dogs allowed” trail in the Whitman County system.

“The trail is narrow and difficult in spots. The new trail provides a different type of experience for park visitors,” Parks Director Tim Myers explained.

The trail was built through the volunteer efforts of the Whitman County Park Board. Their hours of time and dedication reflect their strong commitment to the County Park’s system.

“It is a welcome addition to our trail system and our routine hikers are going to love the new route,” said Todd Heitstuman, Operations and Trails Coordinator.

County Park Board member Doug Flansburg will lead a guided hike on the trail Saturday, June 22, at 5 p.m. Hiking distance will be between four and five total miles.

This will be the fourth program in the Kamiak Butte Evening Campfire Series.
