League to host discussion on state’s open meetings act

The League of Women Voters of Pullman and the Washington Coalition for Open Government will present a panel discussion on the state’s Open Meetings Act and the state law that requires the maintaining of a permanent record of the minutes of meetings.

The discussion will be Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The McGregor Company Center on Airport Road north of Colfax. All elected and appointed officials in the county are encouraged to attend.

Panel moderator will be Anna King of Northwest Public Radio. Other panel members include Toby Nixon, former state legislator and current president of the Washington Coalition for Open Government; Bill Will, executive director of the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association, and Scott Sackett of the state digital archives in Cheney. An attorney from the law firm of Witherspoon Kelley in Spokane will talk about the legal issues involved.

This event will be free and open to all. Call Karen Kiessling in Pullman for additional information.
