Jacobs shuts out Blue Devils over six frames

Pullman Patriots played back-to-back twinbills at McDonald Park Monday and Tuesday and came with a 1-3 record. The lone win went into the books on Monday night when Colfax pitcher Patrick Jacobs threw a shutout for six innings and finished with a 6-1 verdict over the Spokane Blue Devils.

The Blue Devils, who moved the games to McDonald because of field conditions in Spokane, pegged a 10-1 win in the second round of the Senior Legion league show.

Tuesday, the 49ers from the northeast corner of the league, rolled to Colfax and took both sides of a doubleheader. The Tuesday games featured a blast of offense from both sides, but the 49ers went home with the wins when the tally sheets were finished.

Scores were 11-7 in the opener and 18-11 in the second game which totaled 27 hits.

Pullman defense was charged with seven errors in each game

Pullman cracked a 3-1 lead after four innings in the first game, but the 49ers blasted back with five runs each in the next two inings. The Pats added three in the bottom of the sixth to stay within range but couldn’t reclaim the lead.

Brady Ellis had the start for the Patriots in the first game and was relieved by Wil Dedic in the fifth.

Pullman and the 49ers also played it close in the second game with the Patriots tagging a n 8-5 lead after two innings. That was erased with a five-run blast by the Chewelah club in the third.

Hunter Redinger and Bricyn Abdul led the hit roster for the locals, each with three hits, including a double, and Dedic and had two hits with a triple.

The Patiots were booked to travel north to Chewelah Wednesday night and play the same 49ers team in a schedule crunch at the end of the league run.

Against the Spokane Blue Devils Monday night at McDonald Park, Jacobs allowed six hits in throwing the win for the Patriots. Jacobs struck out 12 and walked just two in picking up the Patriots’ fifth win of the season.

The Pats posted a 4-0 lead in the first inning with Jacobs pegging a two-RBI single, Matt Peterson a triple and Bricyn Abdul an RBI single.

The Blue Devils rolled out a 10-1 win in the first game of the twinbill which was moved to McDonald Park because of poor field conditions in Spokane.

Patriots home games for the balance of the season have moved to McDonald from the WSU field. The next scheduled game date here will be Monday against the Bandits at 5:30 p.m.
