Two Colfax High FCCLA members, Kim Hinnenkamp and Lizzy May, attended the national FCCLA meeting July 7-11 in Nashville, Tenn. Kim is the daughter of John and Kristie Hinnenkamp, and Lizzy is the daughter of Richard and Melissa May. They attended with local chapter adviser Cathy White.
Lizzy, a national STAR event competitor, earned a gold medal in “Digital Stories for Change.” The video called “ Save a Life and Save It for Later” is a message about the dangers of texting and driving. The entry, created by Ysabeaux Ng and Lizzy, includes both of them, some friends and family members. The original online entry date was February of this year. The girls were notified in March that they had been one of 19 teams chosen to compete at the FCCLA National Meeting.
Ysabeaux won an FCCLA Japanese Summer Exchange Scholarship, so Lizzy competed for both of them at nationals.
The competition was July 9. The video can be viewed by the public at the Colfax High School website under Teacher Pages: Cathy White.
Kim, state vice president of Region 9, attended a leadership academy to learn leadership styles, meeting organization and activities.
