Whitman County youth swimmers competed in two four-team meets last week and posted several winning times.
The St. John-Endicott-LaCrosse team won in Garfield July 18. Their combined team score of 350 points outpaced Pullman, Garfield-Palouse and Colfax.
On July 16 in Colfax. Dayton took first with 365 points while Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia finished second with 297 points.
S.E.L. swimmers take Garfield meet
The St. John-Endicott-LaCrosse (S.E.L.) team took first in team standings July 18 followed by Pullman (296), Gar-Pal (261) and Colfax (203).
In girls individual results, several local swimmers delivered first-place finishes, including S.E.L.’s Drew Brewer with five wins.
In the 12 and under 100-yard freestyle, Brewer won with a time of 1:19. In the 8 & under 100-yard medley relay, the Colfax team of Liana Vanek, Kendall Clinton, Harper Booth and Paige Cocking won with a time of 2:49.
For the girls 11-12 50-yard freestyle, Brewer of S.E.L. took first in 36.07 before she won the 11-12 50-yard butterfly (37.02).
In the 100-yard individual medley, for the girls 12 & under race, Brewer won with a time of 1:33.
Brewer then took first in the girls 12 & under 100-yard individual medley (1:33).
For the girls 11-12 50-yard breaststroke, Brewer touched the wall first again (51.80) before winning the 50-yard backstroke as well (47.56).
In the 100-yard freestyle relay, the Colfax girls 8 & under team of Clinton, Ivy Workman, Cocking and Harper Booth won with a time of 2:49.
For the boys, in the 8 & under, the Colfax team of Jude Hahn, Oakley Workman, Kenneth Sager and Tyler Haynes took first in a time of 2:28.
S.E.L. won the boys 11-12 200-yard medley relay in 3:37, swum by T. Fleming, E. Hughes, J. Dyas and R. Brennan.
In the 8 & under 25-yard freestyle, Colfax’s K. Sager won with a time of 25.66. In the age 9-10 25-yard freestyle, Brennan of S.E.L. finished first in 17.44.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Fleming of S.E.L. won the age 11-12 race in a time of 39.11.
O. Workman of Colfax took first in the 8 & under 25-yard butterfly (34.10).
J. Dyas of S.E.L. then won the boys 50-yard butterfly with a time of 59.99 before his teammate Fleming took first in the 12 and under 100-yard individual medley.
In the 25-yard breaststroke, O. Workman of Colfax finished first in 34.15 while E. Hughes of S.E.L. won the boys 11-12 race in 59.44.
For the boys 25-yard backstroke, L. Orf of Gar-Pal touched the wall first in a time of 32.41.
T. Fleming of S.E.L. then paced the boys 11-12 50-yard breaststroke in 48.43.
Gar-Pal’s 8 & under 100-yard freestyle relay team of D. Poston, B. Bishop, M. Anderson and L. Orfe took first in a time of 2:12.
Then the S.E.L. 11-12 team of T. Fleming, L. Tobin, J. Dyas and R. Brennan won the 200-yard freestyle relay (3:12).
T.O.R. swimmers take second at Colfax meet
In a four-team meet at Colfax July 16 Dayton took first in overall team scores with 365 points while T.O.R. finished second with 297 and Gar-Pal took third (242). Colfax rounded out the team points with 232.
Lyssa Blood of Gar-Pal led in individual performances with five first place finishes in girls age 13-14 races.
Other top girls individual finishers included Jill Bruce of T.O.R. who won the girls 12 & under 100-yard freestyle in 1:37.
Colfax won the girls 8 & under 100-yard medley relay with a team of Booth, Clinton, Aura Roberts and Ivy Workman (2:30). In the age 9-10 25-yard butterfly, Aleena Cook of T.O.R. took first in a time of 25.78 while her teammate Jill Baker won the 11-12 50-yard butterfly (49.13).
In the 12 & under 100-yard individual medley, J. Bruce of T.O.R. finished on top with a time of 1:49. Her teammate K. Browning swam the 50-yard backstroke in 46.10 to win the girls 11-12 race.
In boys highlights, Trenton Gregory of T.O.R. took first in the age 13-14 100-yard freestyle in 1:10 before winning the 50-yard freestyle in 30.00. Shawn Bober, also of T.O.R., touched the wall first in the boys 8 & under 25-yard butterfly in 34.06. Bober also won the 8 & under 25-yard breaststroke in 31.19.
In the 11-12 50-yard backstroke Colfax’s B. Holman claimed first in 48.66.
