Primary return nears 10 percent

As of Monday, 1,147 primary election ballots have been returned to the auditor’s elections office. The office mailed out 11,159 ballots on July 19.

Deadline for returning the ballots will be the primary election date of Aug. 6. Mailed ballots are required to have a postmark of that date or earlier.

The ballot levy proposals carry turnout requirements of 60 percent of the ballots cast in the last general election. The turnout for validation of the Pullman election is 2,428. Turnout requirement for Garfield is 73 and for Farmington it is 22.

The primary includes one three-way contest for a vacated seat on the Pullman City council plus requests by Pullman for increases in the regular property tax and emergency services levies and an increase in the Pullman parks levy.

Candidates for the city council position are Marcus Crossler, Lakeica Farmer and Eileen McColl. The two top finishers will advance to the general election.

Farmington seeks two special levies and Garfield seeks voter approval for a street repair levy.
