Cooper Mills, 16, of St. John, recently returned home from the National High School Rodeo finals in Rock Springs, Wyo. He competed in the tie down roping as one of 162 contestants in the event and Cooper finished in the top 30.
More than 1,500 other contestants from all over the USA, Canada and Australia competed.
Cooper has been a member of the Washington State High School Rodeo Association for the last two years. Cooper is a junior at St. John High school. His parents are Rod and Jay Mills.
Last week the St. John Fire Dept. was called to the home of Mike and Jenny Roberds. A fire started on the back deck, and Mike, with help from a neighbor, tried to get the fire under control with no luck. The fire crew arrived within minutes but the fire was already in the attic. They did manage to save the house but it sustained major damage.
Penny Hinds reported an account has been set up at the Lamont Bank of St. John to help the family out. The Roberds have only lived in St. John for a short time. No one was injured in the fire.
Owner of the T.O.G in St. John, Gracie Ann Miller, said with harvest here the shop will be closed Mondays.
Peggy Curtis, owner of the St. John Salon, has an opening at her downtown shop. Jay Mills had to step down after an accident early this summer.
Sherry Lynn Mckeen of Ewan wanted to bring something new to the area so with the help of husband Chris they bought a hot dog cart. They started out Mondays at the St. John Primeland from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. selling the Cowboy Dawgs.
They had requests to do other events, but they will continue to be at Primeland on Mondays.
They have added Kid Dawgs because the Cowboy Dawgs were too much for the smaller children.
