Serving Whitman County since 1877
Did you know that we offer cataract surgery at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center? We are fortunate to have Dr. Jonathan Haymore serving patients in our community. He also performs cataract surgery at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Haymore worked with Dr. Michael Cunningham until he retired last year.
What is a cataract? When the eye’s naturally clear lens becomes clouded, it’s called a cataract. Most cataracts are the result of the natural process of aging. Others may be present at birth or develop as a result of physical, drug, or chemical injury. Cataract surgery, one of the most common operations performed in the U.S., clears up the cloudiness.
What can you expect with cataract surgery? Dr. Haymore offers personalized care, calling his patients the evening after surgery as well as a next day appointment at his office on the hospital campus. You are greeted by our friendly Same Day Services staff on your arrival and well cared-for by our operating room staff. The total time at the hospital is about 2 hours – that includes pre-op preparation, surgery and recovery.
During cataract surgery, the cloudy lens is removed or cleaned out and replaced by a clear manmade lens. Nearly 98% of all cataract surgeries are completed each year without serious complications. Though this type of surgery is very safe, you should always discuss the risks of surgery with your eye surgeon.
