Old fashioned fall event slated at Dahmen Barn
Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown will host its seventh annual fall event, “An Old Fashioned Sunday in Autumn,” Sept. 15 from 11 to 4.
Antique tractors will be on display along with working scale model gas engines. Historical movies of farming on the Palouse will be shown and a “name the antique” contest is planned again this year.
The annual apple pie baking contest will be judged by professional bakers with prizes for the winners. Visitors may purchase homemade ice cream along with the pie which will raise funds for operations at the Dahmen Barn.
Live music by the Snake River Six and the Palouse Patchers quilts exhibit will be part of the festivities.
The yard behind the wheel fence will be filled with artists and craftspeople demonstrating and selling what they create. Live alpacas will be on display along with items handmade from their fiber. Fresh, local produce will be available and the Uniontown Deli will have lunch items and drinks for sale.
Local wines wrapped in local art will be sold at the silent auction at this event.
A “Name the Cow” contest will culminate at the close of this event.
The cow, a larger than life metal sculpture welded from parts from agricultural equipment, will be in place across from the barn, near the highway.
The piece was designed as a tribute to the agricultural history of Uniontown and the Dahmen Barn’s past as a commercial dairy operation.
A grant from the National Endowment for the Arts funded the art piece by Lewiston artist John Bergen, the sculptor who created the metal fish installed at the east entry to Clarkston.
Junette Dahmen, donor of the Barn, will select the winning moniker and a prize will be given.
Watch the home page at http://www.artisanbarn.org for details on the naming contest.

Patchers quilts
set for Dahmen
Quilts created by members of the Palouse Patchers using the theme of “Elements: Water, Earth, Wind and Fire” will be on display at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown from Aug. 29 through Sept. 29. The opening reception will be Sunday, Sept. 8, from 1 to 3 p.m.
In June of 2012, Palouse Patchers members began work on a “challenge” using the theme of “Water, Earth, Wind and Fire.” Each participant chose an envelope which contained one of the four “elements” as well as the parameters for the quilts. The quilts were to measure 18 x 24 inches and would be hung vertically. Any technique could be used to complete the quilts, including all types of embellishments.
Palouse Patchers is based in Moscow. There are approximately 170 members of all ages from surrounding areas in the Palouse country.
