Serving Whitman County since 1877
The Palouse Empire Fair is fast approaching.
It opens next week.
Tuesday exhibits will start to flow into the fairgrounds. Then, livestock will come in Wednesday. Flower exhibits are due Thursday.
A key element of the fair is the young exhibitors who bring in their animals that they have worked with for months. They will have spent countless hours feeding, grooming and training their entries. Anticipation is always high for the judging and the stock sale.
And, there is still time for entries in nearly every category. Registration is available at the fair website. It shows the vast number of categories one can enter.
The other and more common way to participate in the fair is to just attend. There is a lot to enjoy for the small entry price.
Carnival rides, a wide variety of food, first rate entertainment and the rodeo are a few of the reasons to spend some time there. The many exhibits, both individual and commercial, can keep one busy.
The Palouse Empire Fair is a county fair. It is not overwhelming. It has a nice, friendly scale.
Many go to the fair to reconnect with old friends and acquaintances. A lot of the effort in making the fair a continuing success is the work of local volunteers. The fair is truly a county-wide effort and a county-wide event.
This issue of the Gazette includes the fair edition, a separate tab-sized section which is devoted to information about the fair. It has a pull-out center that can be easily carried to keep up on the variety of activities once inside the gate.
Enjoy. It only happens once a year.
