Colfax fire department received a report of smoke coming from a building in the 300 block of N. Mill Street Aug. 28 at 3:25 p.m. The smoke was determined to be coming from a roofing oil pot which was being used by the contractor for the roofing job on the Century Link building. The pot was located on the ground next to the building. Hot oil from the pot was pumped up to the roof for surfacing.
Building Inspector Andy Burgard reported the pot had over-heated and generated the smoke. The crew was ordered to shut down the pot to allow it to cool.
