State drops reciprocity for area Sno-Park permits

Beginning Nov. 1, Washington state will discontinue its reciprocity with other states or countries for Sno-Park permits. Out-of-state Sno-Park permits will not longer be valid in Washington.

Snowmobile riders and others visiting Washington will be required to purchase a permit from the Washington State Parks and Recreation. Cost of a one-day permit is $20 and a seasonal permit is $40.

However, state licensing agents will issue one permit, at no fee, with each snowmobile license renewal, including mail-in and online renewals.

They will write the date issued and the towing vehicle’s license number on the permit. If the license plate number is unknown, they will inform the customer to write it on the permit before affixing it to the towing vehicle. The plate number must show on the permit before it is valid.

The permit must be displayed in the left corner of the front window of the towing vehicle.

Additional or replacement permits may be purchased through Washington State Parks and Recreation.

Washington snowmobilers going out-of-state or to Canada must obtain a permit from that state or province.
