will feature
Susan Russell
Susan Russell, acclaimed artist and educator, will be featured at the first Meet the Artist program Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Colfax Library. Russell’s presentation, called “ABCDelirious” teaches how the symbols of ancient marks became contemporary letter forms that comprise our 26-letter alphabet. Russell works in many art mediums, with this presentation featuring lettering art, oil, pastels, pen and ink.
Russell teaches art to both adults and children, so her presentation will include an activity geared toward those 11 and older. She hopes that parents might bring their children along to learn and participate.
Russell, who resides in Portland, is a member of the Colfax High School class of 1963 and will attend her 50 year reunion during her stay in Colfax. As part of the reunion activities, Russell has invited artists from her class to display their work at the library, including Tina Ochs who now resides in Palouse, and Larry Curtis who now lives in Idaho. The exhibit will run Sept. 9-14 and is free and open to the public.
Now in its sixth year, Meet the Artist is sponsored by the Colfax Arts Council and the Friends of Whitman County Library.
