Serving Whitman County since 1877
Cinnamon Brown was named as the county’s financial director, replacing David Ledbetter who completed his last day on the job after resigning in mid-August.
Brown began her new job Sept. 16. She joined county staff as an environmental health technician in April 2008. She has a master’s degree with an emphasis on accounting, a bachelor of science degree in biology and also has a secondary teaching certificate.
Brown said she advanced to food program coordinator and then to director of budgeting and accounting for the county’s health department.
County Auditor Eunice Coker said Brown worked with Ledbetter a lot, particularly during audits because Brown works with complicated health department grants.
“I’m familiar with the system,” Brown said. “My new job will be fun and interesting.”
Brown and her husband, Michael, have two children, Lily, 6, and Mia, 2. She said when they are at home, they spend most of their time on computers.
“We’re big computer nerds,” she said.
She said she’s also an avid gardener or at least tries to be.
“I’m adept at killing gardens and killing plants,” she said.
Coker said she’s pleased to have Brown in the auditor’s office.
“David took us from scratch and took it where we needed to go and now Cinnamon will carry it on,” she said.
Brown said she’s looking forward to the new position.
“I’m sad to leave the department and it’s been great to work with Troy (Henderson, health department director),” she said.
