LaCrosse Town Council last Thursday night passed an ordinance prohibiting marijuana sales within the city limits. The ordinance was approved in response to a Washington State Liquor Board request for towns to determine legal status for marijuana sales within the city limits.
After discussion, the council decided to not only to prohibit marijuana stores within city limits, but to also put a 1,000-foot buffer around the city for any such enterprise.
All town council members approved the ordinance.
The council also discussed the drinking water and wastewater improvement projects.
The city received state grants and loans to improve its drinking water and wastewater treatment plants.
According to engineer Steven Marsh of TD&H Engineering in Spokane, the drinking water project will start in 2014 and the wastewater project in 2015.
City water bills will see an increase of $7 per month to pay off the loan for the project and sewer bills will see an increase of $2 per year for three years to pay off that loan.
