Colton loses to Snake River, 54-8, St. John-Endicott runs over Northport 60-6

Colton Friday will take a 2-1 record to Palouse where they will open league action against the Garfield/Palouse Vikings.

The Vikings will host the league clash after sustaining a 48-20 loss to Genesee last Friday at Palouse. The Vikings are now 0-2 in prep-league action against Idaho teams.

Colton’s early season string in non-league play came to an end Friday at Riggins where they ran into the Snake River Savages. The Savages, now 4-0, stacked up a 54-8 win over their guests after taking control at the line of scrimmage.

Coach Charlie Shepherd’s team is now the top-rated team in its Idaho Division.

Lone score for the Wildcats came in the third quarter when QB Jake Straughan hit Dalton Patchen on a 29-yard pass play.

The Wildcats used the same combo for the two-point conversion.

Salmon River came back after the halftime break with another score and added two points to put the lead over 45 points and shut the game down in the third quarter.

Salmon was led by QB Leighton Vander Esch who booked a 11-224 night rushing with three TDs and a 11-17 235 night passing.

LaCrosse/Washtucna

LaCrosse/Washtucna will face a big challenge Friday night at LaCrosse when they host Sunnyside Christian in a league scramble. The Knights will arrive after taking out a young Wellpinit team 76-14 last week.

The Tigercats, now 0-2, will host after being sidelined for a week when their game with Wallowa was cancelled by the Oregon club because of a low player count. The two teams had been slated to meet at Milton-Freewater.

Tigercat Coach Justin Ziebel said last week’s forfeit allowed the Tigercats more time to prepare for this week’s action. One big addition for the ’cats will be the return of Graham BeDell, one of the top defenders on the club. BeDell has been sidelined since seeing limited action in the first game.

Liberty Christian will again be led by quarterback Wyatt Hoff now a senior. The top ground gainer for the Knights is expected to be sophomore Cooper Liefke.

Now 1-2 on the season, Sunnyside Christian rolled up the points last week under a rule change which calls for a running clock when a 40-point lead shows on the scoreboard.

Other scores for the SE other non-league scores around the league saw Liberty Christian blank Cove, Ore., 54-0 and Clearwater Valley defeats Pomeroy 52-24 at Kooskia.

ST. JOHN-Endicott 60, NORTHPORT 6

The St. John-Endicott football team traveled north last Friday night for a relaxing win by the Canadian border.

Up against Northport, the Eagles scored on their first play from scrimmage and kept it up for a 60-6 victory.

It was 46-0 at halftime and St. John coach Steve Selk pulled his varsity players.

Senior running back Wade West led the team with 10 carries for 126 yards and three touchdowns. On defense, he also blocked a punt and ran 40 yards for a touchdown.

Junior Wilson Lundberg – who broke a 60-yard touchdown run on the game’s first play from scrimmage – had five carries for 105 yards.

Sophomore quarterback Weston Whinnery completed four passes on four attempts for 72 yards and a touchdown. Senior Micah Selk caught the 38-yard touchdown pass.

The Eagles (2-1) play next at Pomeroy (1-2) Friday in their opening league game.
