Private property at the corner of the Farmington park is the subject of discussion for possible purchase by the city.
The property, two lots with an 1889 house at Third Street and Washington, is owned by Jim Trimble, who rents out the house. It includes a 10-foot strip which contains a drain tile for the new basketball court. Trimble granted permission for installation of the tile.
Acquisition of the property by the town could convert the whole block into park property.
“I just think people in town are getting ahead of themselves,” Farmington Mayor Ron Dugan commented. “We’re gonna make a problem out of something that’s not a problem. When he’s ready he (Trimble) will let us know.”
The concept was discussed at the Sept. 16 Farmington city council meeting where Dugan noted the town would be interested in acquiring the lots.
“Yeah, they’ve mentioned that to me,” Trimble told the Gazette. “That they wanted to buy it, but I’ve never said that I wanted to sell it.”
Trimble said he went ahead and mentioned it to his realtor, indicating that he hasn’t sat down and discussed it with him yet.
“I will let my realtor handle it all,” he said.
“It’s a natural extension of the park if he wants to sell it,” Dugan said.
