Two fly-in events set at Colfax airport

Pilots and airplane enthusiasts are invited to a fly-in at the Port of Whitman Business Air Center Sunday, Oct. 6, and Monday, Oct. 7.

Barney Buckley is inviting fliers to enjoy a hamburger at “Buckley’s Airport Bum Headquarters,” the third hangar from the west end of the airport. He said this is the first time he’s hosted the event.

Washington Pilots Association and Experimental Aircraft Association members have been invited.

Buckley, former Colfax Police Chief, said he started flying in 1972. He also is an aircraft mechanic.

Buckley said weather is a driving force for both events and he is hoping for a good turnout of Washington Pilots Association members from Spokane and EAA members from Lewiston and Spokane.

He welcomes everyone to come and meet visitors Sunday and join them for a hamburger.

Monday, Oct. 7, the Association of Washington Aerial Applicators will host a clinic at the Colfax airport where pilots will test and calibrate their spray equipment. Pilots will fly test patterns from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

An open house lunch will be served at noon at Buckley’s hangar.

Area pilots flying into the airport are advised to be aware of the aerial applicators flying low level test patterns near the runway. Visitors are welcome.

Buckley also said people are welcome any time Monday to watch the ag pilots fly their calibration patterns and enjoy lunch.
