Selbu Church hosts Spokane Daughters of Norway; Szasz accepts pulpit

Sunday, Selbu Lutheran Church welcomed the Daughters of Norway from the Freya Lodge in Spokane for the morning worship services. About 30 women, dressed in Norwegian attire, attended services and were guests at a luncheon later in the church basement where Pastor Cross presented a video of pictures of the town of Selbu, Norway, and members of the church’s congregation. Les Wigen also presented the church with a photo of Selbu, Norway, which will hang in the church.

Recent weekend guests of Fran Jones were Bruce and Cathy Williams of Edmonton, Alberta. Fran is Cathy’s aunt. The Williams also visited with first cousins Bryan, Gena and Warren Jones.

Gena Jones and Mario returned to Italy last Thursday after spending time with her mother, Fran, and brother, Bryan. Gena’s son Damien is enrolled as an exchange student at Colfax High School and is living with his uncle Bryan. Her daughter Meggie, who has finished high school in Italy, is living with Fran and looking for work in order to earn some money for college.

Steve Szasz has accepted the job of pastor offered to him by Country Bible Church near Dusty. He has been filling the pulpit as interim pastor for the past year. He and his wife, Darla, will continue to reside in Moscow, Idaho. About 40 people attended the potluck dinner and meeting at the church Sunday afternoon.

Several from the community enrolled in the Life Line Screening Clinic Monday at the First Baptist Church in Colfax.

Larry and Di Brink welcomed a new granddaughter into the family Sept. 26. Myla Lee Brink was born to John and Brandy Brink at the Pullman Hospital and weighed in at six pounds and 11 ounces. She is the couple’s first child.

Dick and Suzy McNeilly welcomed a new grandbaby Sept. 30. Adrianna Hope was born to Ashley and Jake Barber of Spotsylvania, Va. Adrianna joins big sister Alexis.

Linda Hennigar spent from Friday to Monday in Kennewick with her grandson Wesley Banks while his parents, Jay and Tami Banks, were away. Hennigar also visited with friends Linda and Ron Hiskey while in the area.

Overnight guest of Karen Broeckel last Thursday was former LaCrosse classmate Carmi Cummings Thompson of Mount Vernon. Thompson took the scenic route from Hamilton, Mont., where she had been visiting, on her return trip to her home. She stopped in Lewiston and had lunch with another former classmate, Doug Brannon.
